As you know, I'm starting a business dedicated to helping girls and teens with larger shoe sizes find styles they need and love. This blog is going to be a place where I share what I'm discovering along the way. I'd love for you to join me on my "shoe education" journey and helping you and my daughter find the perfect shoes!
What started this adventure:
Our daughter struggles to find shoes that fit. She’s still a teen but already wears a UK adult size 9. Our challenges started when she was just 8 years old, with extremely limited options available in stores or online. ( that is unless you like older styles or men shoes..)
The first thing I'm diving into is the importance of MEASURING!
I've realized that getting the right shoe size starts with accurate measurements.
There isn’t a standard sizing structure. Sizes vary from brand to brand, for example a UK size 7 in one brand may be very different in another brand. Sizing will also be different with or between EU and US brands.
Your shoe size will depend on many factors including:
- Length
- Width
- Instep height
- Foot arch
- Tip shape
So it's not as simple as just knowing your shoe size number, right?
So, I am now researching the best ways to measure your feet at home.
What I've Discovered So Far :
Measure both feet! It sounds obvious, but most of us don't do it. One foot is usually slightly larger. Use the bigger one as the guide!
Measure at the end of the day. Feet swell!
Stand up straight: The foot should stand firmly on the paper.
Tracing your foot is a good start, but be precise! Using a measuring tape or a ruler.
Measure all: this means Length, Width, the Arch and the Instep height.
Measure often: once a year is not enough for children and teens.
My Questions for You:
I'm curious – what are your biggest challenges when it comes to finding shoes that fit? Have you ever measured your feet at home?
We are working with an award wining business to bring a measuring with your phone app. Let us know if you like the idea?
Next Steps:
I'm going to keep researching shoe sizing and fit, and I'll be sharing more of what I learn with you.
Join me as I am finding the easiest way to measure your fit at home.
Stay tuned for my next post, where I'll be talking about different shoe size systems (UK vs. EU vs. US).
Conclusion:
Thanks for joining me on this journey! I'm excited to create a place and a community where girls and teens ( and parents) can find shoes that fit and make them feel amazing. With Love.
